Today my DD caught me catching up on Hearts Desire in my standardly messy studio and took a snap.
I thought it was about time that I cleared my table for the next project as I have several coming up that I want to get finished.
Whilst cleaning up, I became distracted, changed my To Do List and decided to finish some blocks instead..
this is my applique leaf production line
For those of you who don’t already know, I have a ‘test’ sewer make my quilts before I launch my BOMs and at the moment she has completed more of my own work than I have. I have to sort that out immediately! But then the mail arrived…and I had to stop to admire Inspirations Magazine. It’s such an inspiring magazine that it gets me to wondering…when will I get the time to do some needlecraft?
How do you prioritize your interests? Is quilting what you do – or is it one of the things you do?
I’d love to know!

Ok, back to work with only the sneakiest peeks of an upcoming block visible in this photo.
At least once a week I get an email asking for a pic of Hearts Desire.
But remember: It's not a mystery if you know!
Lovely to see you at work. Quilting is only one of the many things that I try to fit into my days. But with a young family and all that entails the days are just packed :-)
ReplyDeleteYour BOM's are exquisite, I am envious of your test sewer!
For me it is a juggle between quilting for customers and quilting for myself, and trying to find some time for me. Most important is family. My nieces and nephews will grow up so fast - I don’t want to miss out on being a part of that.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics of you working, Esther. I am not focused at all lately and am all over the place. There's knitting, making prom attire, and tiny bit of getting my heart blocks together. Sadly, only one is finished. Still, I look forward with great anticipation to your next block and it looks to be a really fun one...look at all those leaves!!!! Lol, guess I better get really busy! Thanks for sharing your talent!

Quilting is just one of the things I do. There just never seems to be enough time. I also work full time, stitch, knit, read, and have a family. I end up doing whatever catches my interest at the time. It works for me but I don't tend to finish things quickly.
ReplyDeleteQuilting is one of the things I do, but it is always what I am looking forward to after I finish the other things. I walk, or hike every day, play golf, work in the garden, and knit socks (slowly). But my sewing room is where I "live", and it's where I would rather be.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't as though I am a professional quilter. Far from it. I am very much a beginner. I just started back up quilting in October. However since then I have been working on a hexagon quilt all day, every day! I love my quilting. I am working on collecting your new pattern, and a few others for when I finish my hexagon quilt. It has been difficult for me to stay on task, and not start many other quilts at the same time. I really want a finished quilt to show for all my work though. It figures I would choose a quilt that takes forever to finish as a starter...however I had no sewing machine when I began.
ReplyDeleteGreat question, I was wide awake last night trying to get my "to do" list in order. I break the month up in two, two week quilting and two weeks cross stiching for World of Charity Stitching. Next week is the quilts. I am happiest when I complete a project. I have 4 quilts pending.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh! "It that a Rose I see before You?", as...(would you believe it, I have forgotten the name of the Cowboy Actor who uttered those words). Must be getting old!
ReplyDeleteCheers Denise
I try to do it all and drive myself crazy, but a happy kind of crazy. Same problem-my Inspirations came yesterday when I was working on something that had to be done. It was my "inspiration"to get done and rea it.
ReplyDeleteHi Esther, I'm doing it all ha and doing none. Distractions and a few more distractions. I have applique (yours!), Stitcheries 4 or so, Piecing not sure, Knitting a cardi I'd like to wear now,and crochet from last winter. I out-source my binding to a friend but I can't get a quilt quilted around here, always a customer one to be done. Did I mention family yes I have one of those too. Love your work chris. xx
ReplyDeleteunfortunately quilting is one of the many things I love to do.....and sometimes I fear buying fabric or bulbs, which are my downfall right now, is more important than the actual quilting.
ReplyDeleteI seem to enjoy buying all the must have things and then spend less time using them than someone who does exquisite work without the toys and gadgets.
But it does go in fits and starts.
It's so nice to see you work at your craft. You are so good at what you do!

ReplyDeleteMaxing block. Wink wink. I can't wait...the mystery continues.
It was supposed to say it looks like an amazing block.
ReplyDeleteI love to quilt and I try not to have too many UFO's
