Picking over the pattern...


I am beginning to think to myself, what have I started here with Love Entwined?

The energy around this quilt is so enthusiastic and keen, I love it, but I also can't ignore how much I completely underestimated everything about this quilt: the time it would take to create the pattern, the time it would take to break down into a BOM, the interest it would arouse, and (most frustratingly of all), the time it would take to select fabric for this quilt.

Both editions, mine is the bright orange one on the right
 
You see, a friend showed me her Patchwork edition of 1958 (I'm amazed how many quilters have this book in their library, isn't it great?) and the image is much clearer than my own, in the 1956 edition.


Can't believe the clarity difference!

Much clearer. So of course I've been nit picking as much as I can over the finer details
....it's addictive!
 
Already I've scrapped 2 birds I was sure 'were there' but in the clearer image have proven not to be.


My sketchbook of images to use in this quilt, I've tinkering away at these for months
the previous working sketch, I've already updated it!
A lot of you are asking if I can put up the fabric requirements for the BOM so that you can go ahead and purchase your chosen range. All the fabric requirments and break downs will be provided in full in Part 1 of the BOM. I will not be adding snippets of info on fabric requirments anywhere else first as I have learnt from previous BOMs that this only leads to confusion.

 I know we're all impatient to start and will be updating this blog as soon as I am ready to launch!

    Yes, I would like to add my appreciation for the work you have done and your willingness to share it with us. I have often wanted to draft a quilt from a picture but just never got beyond rough sketches! So inspiring to see you do it. I look forward to it - it will be lots of fun!

    Oh Esther if I complete this quilt I will feel like I have made some thing to leave behind that will be ME for my family . As you know me well it will be a little different to the original design but it will still be LE> Thanks so so much for sharing again, you are one very very generous women.. Cheers glenda

    Take your time Esther, it is becoming absolutly stunning, you are so generous so we only can wait patiently until you are ready to launch. I know we all have plenty to do in the meanwhile. Lol

    Oh, Esther, it is just soooo beautiful! I have a very old hardback, and the picture is all grayed out, but your pattern is stunning!!

    It will be a stunning quilt I am sure - well done for creating the pattern in the first place, the photo in my old copy of the book is anything but clear, you have done an amazing job. I am tidying my sewing room while I wait and thinking about possible colour combinations, all great fun :)

    Wonderful looking quilt!! You have done a splendid job with this. Take your time and don't get stressed it will take as long as it takes to get ready !!! We will all be here still and it won't hurt us to wait! It will actually give us the incentative to get our other projects cleared away!!

    step back and have some quiet time for yourself or as Grandma likes to say sit and have a cup of tea and it will make everything better!!!

    Esther, you are such a treasure. I have learned so much from you in the previous BOM you have inspired me to be a better person with both you dedication to your craft and your generosity. I appreciate that you are sharing your process and struggles as you recreate the Love Entwined quilt. I must admit that I am impatient to begin this BOM with you and the other quilters.     I'm glad you shared the book cover. I was able to locate several different editions of this book as used copies through Amazon, and I ordered one that has the same ISBN number that your book has but mine has a different cover and they are saying it is a 1976 edition: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/0713403926/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Hopefully it's the same book on the inside!
