WOW = WIPs On Wednesday
What do you think of my new shirts?
Last July I was fed up with not being able to buy shirts in fabrics I loved. Everywhere I went I was limited to pinstripes, beige and cream blouses. Of course, there's nothing wrong with any of these options, but as someone who loves fabric, I wanted a splash of colour in my wardrobe, especially for summer. And, of course, I'm spoilt for choice because I have a fabric mountain to pick and choose from. So I selected 5x fabrics that I loved from my stash and made a shirt pattern. Then I made the collars and different parts over several WOWs and finally this morning I am left with some button choices and maybe an alteration (I think I might slim down the sleeve on one of two so that I have 2x different styles), but otherwise, it's finishing touches only!
I'm already thinking of a few winter blouses for the colder months and have my eye on some prints that might suit the colder months, so I'll let you know if I find the time to start a new seasonal 'collection' !
I love them all for completely different reasons. The green flora print is my most complimentary, the pink rose shirt I'm wearing is a vibrant bunch of flowers that feels so refreshing on hot days and the dutch style painted roses against a black background was actually destined to be a table runner with matching napkins a few years ago.
Luckily I got distracted and never got around to cutting into what was destined to be my shirt!
Have you made any clothes from your favourite quilting fabric?
What's your WOW ?
Love your shirts, they are so beautiful to what you can buy in the shops. I went to the city and everywhere all were dressed in black and white. It is lovely to see colour.
ReplyDeleteWell done Esther, great that you can make your own blouses. Love those colors you choose.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shirts! I've made a few from my stash, with a simple Kwik Sew pattern. What pattern did you use?
ReplyDeleteI think it is really neat that you can make your own shirts - I'm not good at that and I admit it! I too though do not like all that is in the market for shirts.
ReplyDeleteThey are fabulous! They are a thousand times nicer than what is in the shops!!
ReplyDeleteI love your shirts Ester ;) well done!
ReplyDeleteInspiring Esther! I love how they look!
ReplyDeleteOh Esther your shirts are beautiful. Love how you just make a pattern and make up your shirt. I would have to try and buy a pattern that I liked then maybe alter it to fit etc. you are so talented, I also saw aWOW hanging on the wall would love to see the whole piece.

Very pretty! So tropical and after sitting here in VA (USA) watching it snow ALL day they make me wish for the tropics.
ReplyDeleteLove your blouses! I agree - the choice of materials in blouses is pretty drab around here. I've made a pair of pajamas and a skirt in the past few months.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shirts and so many different colors ... can be seen that is convenient and pleasant to wear ... And so great that you took the time and cared of yourself..
ReplyDeleteThank you for your following to my blog. You have very interesting blog so I with pleasure follow you...
What a colourful collection you've made - very refreshing - they look really nicely finished too!
ReplyDeleteI like having t-shirt material next to my skin. Perhaps I should learn how to stitch knit fabric and give clothes making a go, but not until next year as I already have quilting plans for all my sewing time for 2014!
Lovely shirts, I like the blue floral one. I have made a scarf for my sister out of patchwork fabric and she promptly used it as a table runner :)
ReplyDeletelove your shirts. I have made shirts in the past from fabric I originally picked out for a quilt. I had linen pieces in beiges and coffee tones and make a patchwork shirt. I got more compliments on it and where did you buy it. ha ha so glad I can sew!
ReplyDeleteAll your bright and floral blouses are so lovely. There was a period of time when I made most of my clothes. Inspiration is setting in but not sure I have the time. Great job on yours. They look quite professionally made.
ReplyDeleteLove your new shirts :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I had the skill to make clothing!
Lookin' real fine there, Esther! Love the florals!
ReplyDeleteLove your shirts, especially the black with roses - gorgeous. I have a few pieces in my stash that I bought for the "shirt" purpose, but none of the clothing I've ever made turns out flattering. It'll look much better as a quilt. Thanks for sharing yours.

They look great and perfect for the summer, well done. I like the story of the table runner turned into a shirt!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shirts - well made, great colors, and they fit you so well!
ReplyDeleteLove the tops. You are so creative. I have made quilts from dress and shirt fabrics and now use some of the softer prints for backings on chlidren's quilts.
