WOW = WIPs On Wednesdays
Now I have three completed compasses; two mustard and teal (which turned out too large) and my final compass with red print instead of teal. In this photo my needle turned points on the final compass are not completed, but in fact I finished this compass and set it aside several days ago.
Now I have been considering my applique fabrics for the square and, with fresh eyes, I think I love the teal compass most of all. I don't know what I was thinking changing the colour all of a sudden for my third and now I'm going back to my first idea! This must be the fussiest quilt I have made, and I haven't moved past Part 1 yet!
The only problem is? The teal compass is too large and the needle turn points are sewn down on the red compass. So what to do? I have to follow my gut feeling and this means making yet another compass and needle turning yet another 32 points! Which I'll start today...
What's Your WOW?
Although red is my favourite colour I do agree with your teal choice. I hate when this happens to me with colours, nice to see it's not just me :-)
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness Esther now that you have gotten started on your quilt you are going crazy - 3 compasses so far wow - I do believe you said some will be turned into pillows - beautiful work -- and I don't truly mean you are going crazy :)
ReplyDeleteI like the one at the back. It's not quite as 'strong', dark coloured.
ReplyDeleteWell I still love the red one Esther. LOL This quilt sure dominates what colours it wants, I'm still surprised at the colours I picked up to use in my flower arrangements. In vase 2 I have used salmon which I had not thought to use when I started making vase two ????? Cheers Glenda
ReplyDeleteThey're all lovely. Those two teal ones will make a lovely pillow. I can understand your dilemma. My LE keeps telling what color it wants - I feel I don't have a choice sometimes. I could close my eyes and it would guide me what to pull out from the stash.
ReplyDeleteHi Esther, you make me laugh a bit, if you go on like this you'll have more then one LE top done at the end.
ReplyDeleteIf I where you I should use one of the slightly bigger compasses, you'll find out that that will fit in the center...rather then making and other one again.
I see it as a learning process, in my LE are little mistakes, but I learned from it, and I am the only one who cares for those little imperfections.
This quilt definitely has a mind of its own. I also like your teal colours the best of all.
ReplyDeleteYour work is always so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI like the teal!
Love Entwined is a real struggle when it comes to colour choices. It looks like her designer has discover this too :)
ReplyDeleteI love the teal one too, and cannot wait to see what will happen next.
Don't forget to enjoy the journey.
I suspect I'm going to make a real fool of myself but here goes: can't you use the smaller of the two compasses that are too large and make the ring round them slightly narrower? I have to say I prefer the teal too.
ReplyDeleteThey are all lovely but I understand your issues. As someone who changed the center circle of compass three times, I have decided not to sew the sections together until the end. I am convinced that I will step back and say no that one fabric is just wrong. I am so admiring of those who design so easily but I equivocate. Joyce
ReplyDeleteAh, two Joyces. Joyce in Princeton, the equivocator.
ReplyDelete... and I'm on the other side of the world. Joyce in Milton Keynes, who would look for a shortcut to avoid making a 4th compass.
ReplyDeleteWhy not work on the next stage and leave the centre until you can see what it looks like then? You could take a photo with each in the centre to get the impression of the whole thing from a distance. (sometimes we worry too much)
ReplyDeleteps I like the red.....
I like the teal, too. For me it's hard to know which colors I will like until a block, or sometimes even a quilt, is finished. If it's a finished quilt it's too late to change it, but at least with a block you'll be able to, even though it will take so much time. They are all beautiful.
ReplyDeleteEsther, what I would do is place the teal compass in the middle and work around it. Only you (and the rest of us) know it us slightly larger. I think you could make everything else fit in.
