WOW: Now I can't stop!

WOW = WIPs On Wednesdays

Since last Wednesday, Patchwork of the Crosses has really ignited my imagination. It's been a good opportunity for me to use up some fabric without tiring my hands. I've done so much hand sewing lately, I need a break from active LE work. It's just so effortless to play around with fabric options and then slot them together. I'm cheating by using an easy method, I simply glue (lightly) the fabric directly down on top of the paper. I have created 15 blocks so far and am already thinking about what fabric to use between all the blocks as a joining colour. But first I'm trying to decide when to stop. 15? 21? 30?

I'm actually hoping to simply stitch over the blocks as is -and then tear the paper off afterwards.
 I'll let you know how it works out for me.

It' such a versatile block and pattern and I love the idea of using the same fabrics over and over in different arrangements, which is what I would be doing right now on a dark background if I didn't have such a large stash. Mine will be a mix, a bit of everything.

What's Your WOW ?

  1. love you POTC, I finished mine earlier this year and loved working on it - I didn't fussy cut mine and hand pieced, no glue needed.

    1. It's so much fun, isn't it? I love fussy cutting and as I have so much fabric it's do-able. Gluing down is just faster for me, I hope to fly through the blocks when I've decided to stop. At this rate, I could just keep going!

  2. hurry up and stitch them together, I'd like to see how it works. Am assuming you will just slide them through the machine using some kind of tiny zigzag? It isn't a pattern that has fired anything in me, but I love seeing other's blocks! Gorgeous fabrics Esther!

    1. Yes I was thinking of a zig zag stitch, nice and quick! Now I'm just wondering about the 'background' or joining fabric

  3. Those blocks are beautiful! I love how you are fussy cutting the pieces...time consuming but well worth it. Thanks for your weekly link up. I enjoy it.

  7. I'm confused. You are also gluing them instead of basting them down?
    How will you take the paper off if you are gluing the pieces to it?
    It's so pretty and your pictures make it look really easy.

    You do such beautiful work on all of your handwork. Very lovely inspiration.

  9. i'm confused too. You are lightly gluing individual fabric shapes to the elongated hexagons. then you are lightly gluing these to the master pattern. then you intend on zigzagging between the shapes and removing all papers afterwards???
    love your fabrics but i'm lost as to your method! thanks in advance,

  10. Esther these are beautiful! ...Don't Stop! You could make them whenever you need a break. I bet is is peaceful and fun to put them together. Your glue trick is brilliant and i am looking forward to hearing how it goes to leave them like that for sewing!
