This is how I chose to quilt my flower heads. I felt they needed some emphasis and I've provided it with stitching throughout the petals and leaf veins.
I also felt that the lillies were missing something. The petals were so large that I decided what was missing was a vein up the middle. I added this simple stitch with an embroidery thread by hand. I think it makes a great visual difference even though its such a small, basic detail.
I'm nearly done now and I really do love the look and feel of Lily Rose. I can't wait to hang it up and enjoy it every day.
Honestly, Esther, that is stunning. Beyond beautiful! Exquisite! My first thought was when you machine quilt, how do you knot those thread ends? Do you take a few stitches in the same place? or do you leave thread tails, tie them off and bury them in the batting? I don't know the proper way to end my stitches. I do some of all methods. It is so time consuming to pull the threads but it is the best look. I would appreciate it if you would tell us how your finish your machine quilting stitches so beautifully. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteFabulous. Oh so many details and they are all beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is stunning. I love the way you incorporate hand work with machine work. I think that often, those special touches, that can be added only by hand stitching, are what make the difference between great and stunning.
ReplyDeleteLoving your quilting...and the trapunto centre to your flower really makes it pop! Can't wait to see the finished quilt!
ReplyDeleteOh Esther you never disappoint your Lily Rose is gorgeous. I can't wait to get back to mine after our holiday.

Your quilting and embroidery embellishments are spectacular. Thank you for sharing these details. I was sorry to read about all the troubles you've had with your 820. I bought the store demonstrator Bernina 750 two years ago when it first came out. I have had some frustrating moments with it, but in general it has been a good workhorse for me. The story of your 820 is so disappointing to hear; I hope it finally gets resolved. After I bought the 750 I was in the store and overheard the saleslady trying to upsell (I think) someone from the 750 to the 820 because apparently the 750 had lots of "issues". I googled and couldn't find any systemic issues with the 750, but sadly the 820 issues are very well documented. This was my third Bernina in 30 years and I have loved all of them, so I am very disappointed to hear their quality slipped on the 820 and I'm very sorry you got caught up in it!

It is the small details that make the biggest difference and the vein in the lily is a perfect example. Your quilting is exquisite. Can't wait to see more of this quilt!
