My plan is to fuse and cut up the tree too
and broderie perse some of the branches into a new kind of (abstract?) tree
I had considered appliqueing my new design onto a black background, but I don't like the idea of living with a large black wall hanging in my lounge room - especially as these colours are quite rich and will sink in rather than stand out against such a backdrop. I think I will go with a warm woody tone or maybe even an unexpected blue.
Do I have the time? No. But I've discovered that if I only did the things I had time for, I wouldn't get anything done. So, I'll just do what I can as the opportunity arises. This is one of those projects I've been brewing in the back of my mind for over a year, well before I even purchased the panel. When I have a full free day, I'm just going to dive in and get it done on a whim, When I do, I'll share the results here and consider this my "before" post.

ReplyDeleteYou have some wonderful ideas, it's a beautiful panel,. It's good to have a slow burner project on the go giving you plenty of time to conjur up fabulous ideas.
ReplyDeleteHi Esther - I, too, have been wrestling with what to do with the palampore. I love your ideas. I am thinking of possibly adding some borders of broken dishes blocks to the sides and leaving as much of the panel intact as possible. I would like to add trapunto to the back of some of the birds, the tree trunk etc and perhaps embellish with some hand embroidery...and perhaps even some beading. For now, it will have to wait its turn,as I have a few other projects on the go.
ReplyDeleteI have the panel and have been mulling over different ideas about how to use it. It is big so there is lots of fabric and so many wonderful images for broderie perse. However it is such a unique piece and I do have a very large quilt (larger than the panel) and have also been considering adding some borders to it and then use it as the backing for my quilt. So many possibilities!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds so much more interesting than just quilting the panel as-is! I love what you said about not worrying whether you have time to start a new project because if you did, nothing would ever get done. That should be a motto over the door to my sewing room! I hope you add some of your beautiful embroidery embellishments to your broderie perse tree of life, too. I know you don't have time... ;-)
