Cutey Progress

The borders are on and I'm really happy to almost have my cutey quilt completed. Next week I'll be showing my group how I quilt and will be taking my machine in to quilt the group quilt on the spot. Well, start quilting at least. All I have to do now is buy some polyester batting that can withstand frequent washing. My current batting stash is all wool based and not suitable for a baby quilt.
I can't believe I was ever unsure about this project, it's cute! Another benefit is that baby quilts are so much more accomplish-able than my usual quilting style, I really like starting and finishing a quilt this quickly! It feels longer because I've been teaching stages as I went, but the actual hours are refreshingly do-able. I can't wait wait to call it done now...

  1. Your pink cutey quilt is so pretty Esther. But how did you cut out the curved border? Obviously by using the template, but it looks a bit tricky to me.

  2. It is so cute/ Love the border fabrics with the flowers. Would never thought to use a lighter fabric for the borders
    it works very well!

  3. Baby quilts are a fabulous way to try out new patterns and techniques and to maintain creative momentum. I use poly/wool batting all the time in my baby quilts. They can be cold/warm washed and spun in a washing machine and then dried on the line or flat with minimum fuss. If my nieces and nephews are anything to go by, quilts are given a real work out and have to be washed frequently but the poly/wool batting stands up well.

  6. Yes, I'm curious about how you did the borders, too. Did you applique the apple core edges to flat borders and then trim away the excess from behind, or somehow did you cut the borders with scallop edges perfectly matched to the edges of your apple core center? Your quilt is adorable.

  7. Ohhhh so so sweet. A great way to learn a new template plus having lots of fun and seeing the end so quickly. Love how you used that lighter border but also added it to the centre as well. Thanks for the tutorial on this one. Cheers Glenda
