WOW: Look at the Birdy!

WOW = WIPs On Wednesday
This lovely pigeon was in need of rescuing from my neighbor's roof - she was lost, sore and scared. There's something wrong with her wing and she spent two nights out in the howling wind and rain before I managed to coax her into my laundry where she showed herself to be super calm, gentle and sweet natured. I was sure someone was missing her so I called around all the local vets. They told me that if I brought her in, they would kill her because she was an introduced species. Well, I couldn't have her killed just when I'd rescued her, so I went onto a Lost Bird site in my local area.

Lucky for her, an animal rescuer with a pigeon aviary let her join his gang. Phew! That was a close call. Between vets wanting to kill her and people wanting to collect her so they could eat her, she's ended up in a kind of Pigeon Heaven.

And I have my laundry back, so it's time to get washing. I'm afraid that with all my creating lately, the laundry usually lapses and then I have to wash back to back for 2 days to bring it back under control, so I'm going in, wish me luck :)

What's Your WOW?

  2. It was kind of you to save the pigeon. We used to raise them and fly them. They can really be very fun. They were also a great way for my children to learn responsibility as they cared for them.

  3. This is the sweetest, sweetest thing! I love that you looked out for her and helped her out. It seems that I'm always reading horrible news stories anymore of what people do animals and birds and your post was just so heartwarming and lovely, and had a happy ending instead of something awful. Thank you for helping this little pigeon out! Bless you!!!!

  4. It was so kind of you to rescue the bird and find her a home, and how sweet that she trusted you enough to move into your laundry room. It's easy to let laundry go by the wayside when there are more important and interesting things to do -- like quilting! Best wishes that it will go quickly and you can get to sewing/quilting/etc.

  5. An introduced species? Does that mean someone brought some in and set the ball rolling? Does Australia do that with all introduced species?

  6. I wonder if she might be a lost racing pigeon? Or a pet someone got tired of and just let go :-( Since she was able to be coaxed into your laundry, it sounds like she belonged to someone and fairly recently. I'm glad you found a home for her. I must say I *sort* of understand the veterinarians' stand - introduced species allowed out of control can make it very difficult for the native ones, plant and animal.
