WOW: Stuck on Applique

WOW = WIPs On Wednesdays
My applique production line has come to a grinding halt today! I'm all out of glue! I sometimes wonder how my love for applique turned into a fussiness for glue.. I'm always seeking out my favorite glues because no matter how many I buy, it's never enough. And although I know - intellectually- that I should buy more, I worry about the glue drying out.. so I'm in a constant glue shopping cycle.

I get asked all the time what my favourite glue is, and I have three: Roxanne Basting Glue (although lately it's stickier than usual, has anyone else noticed this?), Elmer's Disappearing purple in the small tubes and Sewline Glue in the blue version. It also comes in a pink and they're both good, I just seem to prefer the blue.

My usual stockist has been out of stock for 2 weeks, so I did try to be organized and stop this happening, but it happened anyway. So today, I'll be looking for new places to do my supply shopping and tidying up my sewing room which is currently out of control.

  1. Hi Esther! While it might be inconvenient to have to go find glue, especially when you're on a roll, it also makes for a nice break/outing. I have to go look for some fat quarters in specific colors tonight or this weekend. You know going into a fabric shop will lead to other purchases . . . ~smile~ Roseanne

  3. Esther, I don’t do nearly as much appliqué as you do... I have had the same bottle of Roxanne’s Glue Baste-It that I bought at least 7 years ago and the glue is still good as new. I just make sure the lid is tightly closed before storing it away and I keep the glue bottle inside of a sealed Ziplock baggie, same as I store my glue sticks to keep them from drying out. I am sure you could safely stock up larger quantities of glue without any of it going bad or drying up, as long as it’s tightly closed and stored in an air tight bag. Then you would not have your fabulous appliqué projects come to a screeching halt due to glue shortages.

  4. I am using glue for appliqué for the first time. Glad to see the Sewline brand on your list of recommendations since that is what I’m using. Thanks for hosting!

  6. I use glue sticks for my applique.

    Living in a small town in British Columbia sometimes it is hard to find the one brand I like, except when the school year begins.

    I usually buy several then & I keep them in Ziploc bag in the fridge when not in use. They stay nice & fresh until they get used up.
