Love Entwined: 1790 Marriage Coverlet is a historic, heritage applique quilt made in remembrance and legacy of an original coverlet of no name, referred to only as a 'fine marriage coverlet' by Averil Colby in her publication printed in 1958. I created this homage to the original because I knew that this quilt needed to be remembered, acknowledged and recognized by all quilters everywhere as a work of magnificent ingenuity without peer or equal in its era. I talk about these points in greater detail in the blog post archive listed below.
If you are making this quilt, or have made it, please add a linky of your work as well as any Love Entwined related posts to the archive below for other quilters to explore in the future. This linky has been left open for this purpose. My aim in releasing this pattern was to revive interest in it, and I encourage you to make it, share your love for it and /or use elements and motifs of its design (acknowledging the source) in your blocks, projects and quilts if you are not making the actual quilt itself.
- Love Entwined: 1790 Marriage Coverlet was released over 18 months as a FREE BOM. It finished on October 15th, 2014. It is no longer available for free. It will not be re-released as a Free BOM. If you'd like to make it now, you can purchase the pattern here.
- If you're making this quilt, please say hello in the comments below and remember to visit our Love Entwined Gallery project page. You can add your own Love Entwined quilt there too. Simply submit by clicking here.
This is my Love Entwined quilt progress so far...

I am "collecting" the pattern for now but I must say that while I'm not sure I am up to this, reading how everybody is doing it makes me want to attempt it earlier than I thought. I live in DeKalb IL and I love to do stitching in the evenings. I have a feeling that I will be starting this in a month or so.

Looking forward to the next installment although I still have a lot to do.

ReplyDeleteI live in Israel in Jerusalem. I've been enjoying your blog and yahoogroup for a long time and now am also fascinated with the current BOM. I'd love to make it but just don't have the time right now to start yet another project. In the meantime, I'd like to do what I often do before starting a quilt. The old fashioned way, I color in a line drawing of the quilt. I'd like to know, Esther, if you have available a line drawing where the black sections are not filled in. I tried to use the black and white image that you provided in the introductory pdf, but I can't get it to work right for me.

ReplyDeleteMy name is Rebecca, I am currently just collecting pattern, following messages and tutorials, and dreaming of color. The budget is really tight right now with 5 teenagers in the house (one who just totalled my car). So when I can afford background I'll get started. Meanwhile, I watch and drool from Atoka, Tennessee....just north of Memphis. Thanks for all your work to put out this lovely pattern.....Rebecca

My name is Ginabeth Young. I am from Middle Tennessee, USA. I have been gathering fabrics and reading the Blog/Yahoo messages for LE. I will retire in Sept and will start then. This year is my 40th wedding anniversary so I thought I will start it in honor of that mile stone. (I have also been working for 40 years at a paid job.).
ReplyDeleteThis has caught my imagination because of the history and mystery. I bought Avery Corey's book too. I am trying not to feel behind, but ahead as I have read about others trials and successes.
I will add photos when I start. I am trying to finish up other projects to be ready in Sept.
Ester I can not thank you enough for all the wonderful patterns and time spent in this endeavor.

ReplyDeleteThe fabrics you've chosen are fabulous. Has given me some idea of what to choose - up to now have chopped and changed my mind . . .pinks and greens? Scrap?
ReplyDeleteThankyou for your wonderful generosity in offering this lovely quilt which I shall make in memory of my beloved husband who died 3 years ago.
Hi, I'm Esther from the Netherlands. I am amazed to see so many Dutch quilters participating in this beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteEsther, thanks so much for keeping the first files a little while longer and thus allowing some late newcomers like myself the opportunity to participate.
Also thanks for sharing and all the hard work you have put into making this BOM.

Hello, I'm Barbara from Beautiful Perry County, Pennsylvania, USA.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first completely needle turned project, so I will probably lag behind. BUT I'm determined to finish it, no mater how long. I'm keeping all the group messages, and their advice, until I complete each step.
My mariner's compass is ready, so I have started this interesting project. Thank you for sharing this with us. I am Dutch, but I live in Germany. Marie-Therese
ReplyDeleteHi Esther, My name is Susan and I am from Maine, USA, I have gathered the fabrics and ordered 2 applique books and suggested. First I will read through a bit as I am not experienced at applique. LOL Thought this project will surely make me an expert by the end. I love to dive head first into things bigger than I am. I'm starting late and will just have to play catch up. I intend to only make the center portion, unless I get the applique bug. Thank you for your tutorials and sharing this amazing quilt with us. I realize it is a tremendous project you are undertaking for the sake of history and art.

ReplyDeleteThis beautiful quilt Love Entwined was love at first sight. Thank you Ester from the bottom of my heart for all your hard work and now knowing it is still alive.

Hi Esther,
ReplyDeleteI am also making this quilt, in between all of my many other projects. Love reading all of the comments and tutorials. Thanks for your pattern and your hard work.
Dear Esther,
ReplyDeleteI may have made an oops. When I tried to link my blog for WOW, I accidentally linked it to the love entwined tab for tutorials and such.
it did not show up yet, if it does would you please remove it? I am very sorry about this.
I did manage to link it to the WOW tab where it belongs also.
sorry for the trouble.
Greetings

Although I took a Holiday detour to finish hand quilting a 1920's applique basket coverlet for my niece, I am glad to be back to LE, which I am making for my son and his future wife. Challenging to applique but oh so rewarding! Deepest gratitude to Esther for bringing this coverlet to us all!
